NATIONAL OPEN SCHOOL OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO (NOSTT)
…Removing Barriers, Providing Opportunities, Transforming Lives ….
The National Open School of Trinidad and Tobago (NOSTT), is an education system which uses a blend of conventional and distance education methods and allows learners to choose how to learn, when to learn, where to learn and what to learn using a wide range of educational media. Established by the Ministry of Education in 2007, it is complementary to the traditional school system; however, it emphasizes entry skills, knowledge, abilities and competencies rather than qualifications.
To establish a dynamic system that will complement the conventional education system and provide individuals at any stage of educational development with unrestricted access to quality programmes and courses using a blended learning delivery mode.
To develop and deliver a comprehensive and diverse range of primary, secondary, enrichment, vocational and pre-tertiary open learning programmes and courses enabling unrestricted access to quality open learning experiences, resources and support services through the use of appropriate technologies, and act as a resource centre and model for an open and distance learning system at the school level.
THE PILOT PROGRAMME to be conducted in nine (9) secondary schools, targets some 1,250 students who received unsatisfactory grades in Mathematics and English Language. The programme will prepare candidates for the January or June 2008 CXC examination and will also give participants access to Study Skills, Life Skills and ICT certification courses. A NOSTT website with free and open education resources will be available for all.
