Smooth re-opening of School Term III 2016-2017


The Honourable Anthony Garcia, Minister of Education is expressing his satisfaction as thousands of students returned to the classroom today after the two-week Easter vacation. “It’s a smooth reopening of school for the last term of the academic year 2016-2017. We are satisfied that all efforts were made for a successful return to the classrooms,” he said.

Since assuming office in September 2015, Minister Garcia has ensured a complete state of school readiness resulting in the opening of all primary and secondary schools. This remarkable achievement is the result of a team effort, proper management and effective leadership. “We have been monitoring the situation. Officers of the Ministry of Education have been visiting schools, officers of the EFCL also have been visiting schools all in an effort to ensure that every school is opened, and our children will have access to the quality education that this Government and this Ministry are determined to provide,” he added.

Minister Garcia also takes this opportunity encourage students and teachers to perform to the best of their abilities while keeping focused for the next 11 weeks. He reiterates his commitment to ensure a safe and nurturing environment, which is conducive to the teaching/learning process. This is part of government’s National Development Strategy toward producing a disciplined, caring, and tolerant society comprising healthy, happy and educated people.


He also wished the nation’s students well in their SEA, CSEC, CAPE and End of Term examinations.
