A: To create a peaceful nation, from a generation of peaceful individuals within our nation’s schools.

A: The long-term goal of the PPP is to create a culture of peace - in the individual, the school, the home, the community and the society at large.

Q3: What is the purpose of the Peace Promotion Programme?

A: Over the last decade violence and indiscipline have been increasing in our schools at an alarming rate. This phenomenon mirrors the situation in the society at large. The Ministry of Education has developed the Peace Promotion Programme to address this disturbing trend in the schools.

Q4: What is the role of the PPP?

A: To help students, teachers and the communities find positive and empowering ways to build up a defence and resilience against any tendency or inducement to violence and indiscipline.

Q5: How many persons does the PPP comprise?

A: The staff of the PPP comprises:

  • 1 Coordinator
  • 1 Specialist Researcher
  • 1 Administrative Secretary
  • 1 Data-Entry Clerk

A: Students can benefit from the following programmes:

  • Mediation/Conflict Resolution

  • Pre-Carnival Preparation

  • 40 Days of Peace

  • Together We Light The Way

  • Homework Centres

  • Out of School suspension

  • Alternative Education

  • Driver Responsibility Education

  • Student Councils (Democratic Citizenship)

  • Parenting Education – Training Workshops

  • Education Television for Parents

  • School Social Workers

  • Anger and stress understanding and management

  • Conflict Resolution
