Curtains Close on LMSIP Christmas Festival


The curtains closed on the second edition of the Laventille/Morvant School Improvement Project’s (LMSIP) Christmas Celebrations on Friday 14th December, 2018 at the Ministry of Education’s Head Office on St. Vincent Street, Port of Spain. The five-day event, which began on Monday 10th December, 2018, showcased the talents of students from 20 primary and 5 secondary schools from the Laventille and Morvant communities. Students displayed their artistic talents by singing and playing instruments for the employees and members of the public.

On-lookers enjoyed traditional and soca parang music from the students. Musical accompaniment was provided by the Multicultural Music Programme Unit (MMPU) of the Ministry of Education. 

Dr. the Honourable Keith Rowley, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago along with the Honourable Fitzgerald Hinds, Member of Parliament for Laventille West and the Honourable  Adrian Leonce, Member of Parliament for Laventille East  attended the event on Wednesday and enjoyed the performances. 

MMPU is responsible for teaching music in 118 primary schools. Previously known as the Pan in the Classroom Unit, the Programme has evolved to include a number of other instruments including a variety of wind and string instruments as well as traditional East Indian musical instruments among others.

Friday’s line-up featured performances from both the Laventille/Morvant School Improvement Project and the Multicultural Music Programme, Russel Latapy Secondary School, South East Port of Spain Secondary School, Munroe Road Hindu School and La Horquetta Government Primary School. 

The Honourable Anthony Garcia, Minister of Education extends heartfelt thanks to the principals teachers and parents and the staff from the Laventille / Morvant School Improvement Project’s (LMSIP and the Multicultural Music Programme Unit (MMPU) of the Ministry of Education for putting on a very entertaining Programme this year.   

The LMSIP is aimed at improving the outcomes of students by focusing on numeracy and literacy, promoting discipline, parental support and a conducive learning environment.
