Inaugural Schools Carnival Champs in Concert

The Ministry of Education will be hosting its inaugural Schools Carnival Champs in Concert on Tuesday 12th March 2019 at the Grand Stand, Queen’s Park Savannah at 9am. The concert will be open to members of the public to be a part of celebrating the excellence of our students.

This Champs in Concert was conceptualized because of the significant feedback the Ministry has received on the quality of the competitions this year. This year the Panorama, Calypso, Chutney, Extempo, Soca and Traditional Mas competitions saw some outstanding and exceptional content as it pertains to lyrical content, arrangements, performances, discipline and overall embrace of our culture.

The Ministry was able this year, to give live coverage of several of our competitions and permit the public a real insight into what our students are able to do and to achieve. The response was a call for more and the Ministry has heeded that call with this concert.

On Tuesday, winners of each of our competitions will perform their winning pieces giving the public an encore of what won them these titles. Performances will include:

§  Pan- Primary and Secondary

§  Calypso- Primary and Secondary

§  Chutney- Primary and Secondary

§  Extempo- 1st and 2nd place

§  Soca- Primary and Secondary

Minister of Education the Honourable Anthony Garcia has stated that ‘This concert will give the public an opportunity to see that our culture is in very safe hands. I invite everyone to come be a part of a concert that demonstrates that the Visual and Performing Arts are a critical tool in the preservation of Trinidad and Tobago’s culture.’
