NEWS RELEASE

MOE Committed to Pay Service Providers and Stakeholders

The Ministry of Education is reiterating its commitment to settle outstanding financial payments to its service providers and other education stakeholders.

This assurance comes from the Honourable Anthony Garcia, Minister of Education, who continues to have discussions with the relevant authorities to ensure the necessary releases are made available to his Ministry to effect these payments.

Earlier, this week Minister Garcia kept a promise to ensure that caterers supplying meals for students under the School Nutrition Programme (SNP) were paid. A sum of thirteen million dollars ($13,000,000.00) was handed over to the National Schools Dietary Services Limited (NDSL) which has since commenced payments to caterers. This payment follows two previous trances of six million dollars ($6,000,000.00) in October and early November, 2017.

Minister Garcia says similar financial releases are expected from the Ministry of Finance within the next two weeks to meet outstanding payments owed to the Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) and Private Secondary Schools where the Ministry of Education place students. Approximately 300 private maxi taxi operators are contracted by The PTSC to transport students on a daily basis.

Minister Garcia is giving the assurance that despite the existing economic challenges facing the country and a significant decline in revenues, his Ministry will continue to work with all its stakeholders for the continued development of the education system.
