Chirpy’s Academic Cricket Manual launched

Regional teachers now have a new teaching aid to assist them with curriculum delivery to their students for subjects like Language Arts, Creative Writing and Mathematics in a fun and interesting way, with the launch of the Chirpy’s Classroom Adventure Academic Manual.  The Launch of the Manual, which occurred on Tuesday 13th March, 2018, is full of fascinating cricket facts and information which are formatted within academic subjects such as Language Arts, Mathematics and Creative Writing. Students performed skits, musical, poetry and Creative Writing recitals with cricket themes to them.

Delivering the feature address on behalf of the Honourable Anthony Garcia, Minister of Education, School Supervisor II (Ag.) Simonetta Williams said the performance of the pupils was a profound  example of how students can excel both academically and athletically in their school lives. “I myself, was impressed by the balance that was struck between the academic world and that wonderful world of sport. It was interesting to see the students bring forth performances in music, creative writing and poetry. This is the goal of the Ministry of Education, to put into society many holistically developed young people who would become positive citizens,” she said.

School Supervisor II (Ag.) Ms. Williams said that initiatives like the Chirpy’s Classroom Adventure Academic Manual and the Kiddy Cricket Scotiabank project is testimony that the Ministry’s work is truly recognised by critical stakeholders which will benefit students, both on and off the playing field.

“When stakeholders in education, subsequently come together and create opportunities, like these, for our students, we can see that the work that the Ministry of Education is doing, is supported and how students can continue to benefit, both in and out of the classroom,” she said.

The key stakeholders behind the Launch were Cricket West Indies, Scotiabank, the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), Caribbean Regional Anti-Doping Organisation (RADO) and the  United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). Among the attendees were the President of Cricket West Indies (CWI) Whycliffe Dave Cameron, CWI Chief Executive Officer Johnny Grave, Registrar of CXC Glenroy Cumberbatch and Vice-President, Chief Financial and Chief Administrative Officer for Scotiabank, Reshard Mohammed. Also in attendance were former West Indies fast bowler Joel “Big Bird” Garner and ex-West Indies captain Jimmy Adams.
