Ministry of Education Trains and Empowers Teachers

During the July- August vacation, over 1,200 educators are being empowered and equipped with skills and strategies to better help students as part of the Ministry of Education’s Annual Professional Development Workshop for Teachers.

A total of (19) nineteen workshops have been organised to increase the pedagogical, technological skills and knowledge range of participants. These series of workshops address topics such as effective management, ICT in education, promoting school discipline, foundations for a positive classroom environment, school development planning process, transitioning from early childhood setting to the primary school, among others.

The Honourable Anthony Garcia, Minister of Education recognises the value of teachers and the key role they play in the development of the nation’s children. “Teachers are the single-most important factor impacting on student achievement. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure their development to facilitate the teaching and learning process so that all students will have access to quality teaching,” he said.

The workshops will be facilitated by experienced professionals in their respective fields from within and external to the Ministry. They are aimed at sensitising stakeholders to the various needs of the individual learners as well as their role in re-tooling the students. The overall coordinating of the various activities will be done by the officers of the Teaching and Teacher Development Division.

Information on venue and time of each workshop is available on the Ministry’s website under the “Notices” section.

The Ministry of Education reiterates its commitment to build the capacities of its teachers and relevant personnel while delivering quality teacher-training.
